Two mosquito samples collected tested positive for West Nile virus. One sample was collected on Newport Dr. Mesa, WA. West of Langford Rd. this is the second positive sample collected from this location.  The second positive sample was collected on Shoreline Rd. Pasco, WA. located on Corps of Engineer property along the Columbia River.

Three mosquito samples collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  One sample was collected on Newport Dr. Mesa, WA. West of Langford Road. The second sample testing positive was collected on South Columbia Basin Irrigation District property West of Peterson Road.  The final positive sample was collected approximately three miles North East of Basin City, WA. this is the second positive sample collected from this location.

Three mosquito samples collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  One sample was collected on the 3300 block of Opal St. Pasco, WA. The second sample was collected on Russell Rd. Mesa, WA. between Glade North Rd. and R-170. The third sample was collected on South Columbia Basin Irrigation District property West of Peterson Road.  This is the second sample collected from this location to test positive for West Nile virus. The District will be performing aerial and ground adulticiding throughout the surround areas.

One mosquito sample collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  The sample was collected on Hendricks Road between Scooteney Road and Sagehill Road.

One mosquito sample collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  The sample was collected a mile and a half west of Eltopia, off of Eltopia West Rd. Mesa, WA.

One mosquito sample collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  The sample was collected approximately two miles East of Basin City, WA. on Drummond Road.

This is the second sample collected from this location to test positive for West Nile virus. The District will be performing aerial adulticiding over the site and surround area.

Three mosquito samples collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  Two of the samples were collected approximately 10 miles west of Connell, WA. on Pioneer Road and one positive samples was collected 2.5 miles North West of Basin City.

One mosquito sample collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  The sample was collected approximately 1.5 miles North West of Basin City near Drummond Road.

Three mosquito samples collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  Two samples were collected from the same trap located near Buffalo Road Othello, WA. and one sample was collected off of Michel Road Othello, WA.

Three mosquito samples collected tested positive for West Nile virus.  All three sample were collected from the same trap located near the West end of Pump Access Road Othello, WA (Mtn. Vista Drainage).

A horse was reported to be West Nile virus positive in the Mesa area.  No information was provided to the Franklin County Mosquito Control District by the State Veterinarian or Washington State Department of Agriculture regarding the positive horse.  Please see WSDA link to their news release at the address below.

West Nile Virus Detected in Franklin County, Washington

  

Pasco, Washington- September 18, 2013-  Franklin County Mosquito Control District traps and tests mosquitoes for West Nile virus throughout the County on a weekly basis.  An additional mosquito pool that was collected one mile northeast of Basin City tested positive for West Nile virus.  This is the fifth positive pool of mosquitoes in Franklin County this season.

“While mosquito populations are beginning to decrease, this is the time of year West Nile virus is most prevalent.  If you have to be outside during times of peak mosquito activity, we recommend that you wear long sleeve shirts and pants, as well as insect repellent containing DEET.” says David Dorsett, Franklin County Mosquito Control District Director.

Franklin County Mosquito Control District will be conducting aerial and ground treatments over this area for the remainder of the mosquito season.

West Nile Virus Detected in Franklin County, Washington

Pasco, Washington- September 13, 2013-  Franklin County Mosquito Control District traps and tests mosquitoes for West Nile virus throughout the County on a weekly basis.  Two mosquito pools collected one mile northwest of Basin City tested positive for West Nile virus.  This is the third and fourth positive pools of mosquitoes in Franklin County this season.

“The District will continue to do everything we can to reduce the number of mosquitoes in Franklin County.  It is important that residents of Franklin County protect themselves from being bitten.  Mosquito are most active in the evening and early mornings.  We recommend that you wear long sleeve shirts and pants, as well as insect repellent containing DEET.” says David Dorsett, Franklin County Mosquito Control District Director.

Franklin County Mosquito Control District will be conducting aerial and ground treatments over this area for the remainder of the mosquito season.

West Nile Virus Detected in Franklin County, Washington

Pasco, Washington- August 14, 2013- Franklin County Mosquito Control District traps
and tests mosquitoes for West Nile virus throughout the County on a weekly basis.
Mosquitoes collected on North Wahluke Road (Northwest Franklin County) tested
positive for the virus. This is the first positive pool of mosquitoes in Franklin County this
season.

“If you have to be out in areas with mosquito activity in the evening and early mornings we recommend that you wear long sleeve pants and shirts as well as insect repellent containing DEET. West Nile virus is typically most active this time of year and
protecting yourself from being bitten is the only way to insure you won’t contract the
virus.” says David Dorsett, Franklin County Mosquito Control District Director.

Franklin County Mosquito Control District will be conducting aerial and ground
treatments over this area August 14th and 15th.

The Franklin County Mosquito Control District will be hosting a free tire recycling event May 19th, 2012 in Connell, WA.  The District will be collecting up to 15 car, light truck and or truck tires per Franklin County resident (please bring ID).  Tires can be dropped off at 605 S. Columbia Ave. Connell,  WA. 99326 (behind the new fire station) on May 19th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.  If there are any questions please call the District office at (509) 545-4083.

West Nile virus has been confirmed in a mosquito pool at Chiawana Park in West Pasco.  This is the first confirmed West nile positive in Franklin County in 2011.

September 2, 2009

West Nile virus has been confirmed in three (3) additional mosquito pools. (1) Ringold Fish Hatchery, Ringold River Road, Mesa (WDFW). (1) East Mtn. Vista Road Drainage, Mtn. Vista Road, Othello (WDFW). (1) West Mtn. Vista Road Drainage, Hanford Monument, (USDFW). With the addition of these West Nile virus positive mosquito pools Franklin County Mosquito Control District has confirmed thirty eight (38) WNv positive mosquito pools in Franklin County in 2009.

August 30, 2009

West Nile virus has been confirmed in two (2) dead birds collected in Pasco.  The Benton Franklin Health Department is no longer collecting birds for the 2009 mosquito season.

August 28, 2009

West Nile virus has been confirmed in twenty (20) additional mosquito pools. (1) Ringold Fish Hatchery, Ringold River Road, Mesa. (1) Peterson Road, Pasco (South Columbia Basin Irrigation District runoff ponds). (5) Sheffield Road, Mesa (Mesa Gun Club). (8) Ironwood Road, Mesa (Clarke Pond, WDFW). (3) N. Drummond Road, Basin City. (1) Coyan Road & Scootney Canal, Othello. (1) Mtn. Vista Road, Othello (Mtn. Vista Drainage, WDFW).  With the addition of these West Nile virus positive mosquito pools Franklin County Mosquito Control District has confirmed thirty six (36) WNv positive pools in Franklin County in 2009.

West Nile virus has been confirmed in eight (8) mosquito pools. (1) corner of Sagemoore Road and Glade N. Road, (1) Ironwood Road (Clarke Pond WDFW), (3) N. Drummond Road Basin City, (1) Sheffield Road Mesa (Mesa Gun Club), (1) Coyan Road & Scootney Canal Othello, (1) Pump Access Road (WDFW).  With the addition of these West Nile virus positive pools Franklin County Mosquito Control District has confirmed sixteen (16) WNv pools in Franklin County in 2009.

West Nile virus has been confirmed in one (1) mosquito pool from Ringold Fish Hatchery, Ringold River Road, Mesa.  With the addition of this West Nile virus positive pool it brings the total to eight (8) WNv pools in Franklin County.

August 11, 2009

West Nile virus has been confirmed in 4 additional mosquito pools.  These four additional pools brings the total to seven (7) positive pools in Franklin County.  Additional positive mosquito pools were located (2) N. Drummond Road Basin City,

(1) Peterson Road Pasco, (South Columbia Basin Irrigation runoff ponds) and (1) Sheffield Road Mesa (Mesa Gun Club).

The Franklin County Mosquito Control District has confirmed three (3) West Nile virus positive mosquito pools in the North Franklin County (1) N. Drummond Road Basin City, (1) Pioneer Road Connell and (1) Pump Access Road Othello. 

The Franklin County Mosquito Control District routinely monitors and tests mosquito samples throughout the County for West Nile virus presence as an early indicator of disease threat to people, birds and horses.

August is the peak month for West Nile virus activity and Franklin County residents must take the threat of this illness seriously and protect themselves against mosquito bites.
